AmaZulu And Wits Split Spoils
09 December 2012
Absa Premiership
Result: AmaZulu 1-1 Wits
Date: 9 December 2012
Venue: Moses Mabhida Stadium
Craig Rosslee oversaw his second straight draw since taking charge of AmaZulu as they played out a 1-1 draw with Bidvest Wits at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Usuthu opened the scoring in the 50th minute as Carlington Nyadombo converted a penalty but the visitors equalised two minutes later courtesy of Bhongolwethu Jayiya.
In a match featuring two sides short on goals in recent weeks the first half was very much a reflection of that statistic.
AmaZulu’s Andile Khumalo brought a shot out of Ryan Harris with a quarter of an hour gone whilst at the other end Tapuwa Kapini kept out Matthew Pattison.
Kulegani Madondo had James Mayinga scrambling to make a block just before the hour mark as the home side searched for a first win since early November.
Usuthu’s top scorer Ayanda Dlamini headed wide in the 41st minute to sum up a half in which neither side looked a legitimate goal threat.
It took only five second half minutes to find the opener as Kulegani Madondo was sliced down in the box which presented Nyadombo with a chance from the spot which he duly converted.
The hosts lead was wiped out almost immediately as half-time replacement, Jayiya turned the ball home to level proceedings.
Stanley Kgatla headed wide from Kagiso Senamela corner as Usuthu looked to regain their advantage whilst Pattison had a shot deflected wide at the other end.
Both teams began to push for a winner but Khumalo could not put away an excellent centre from Dlamini and Marc van Heerden sent his long range effort wide.
Nyadombo headed over from a corner and then was on hand to block Calvin Kadi’s shot as the game ended in stalemate.
AmaZulu remain rooted to the bottom of the log following the draw whilst Wits climb one place to seventh.
