Akpabio Pens Ajax Deal

Ajax Cape Town have concluded the signing of Nigerian striker George Akpabio. The Cape-based club announced earlier today on their official website that the 19-year-old has penned a deal with the side.
Akpabio had been training with the Maarten Stekelenburg-coached squad for some time, which gave the coaching staff a good opportunity to assess what the youngster can offer. With the Urban Warriors having tabled an offer, the forward has agreed to a two-year-and-a-half-year deal with a two-year option.
The youngster impressed in his debut season, the 2010/11 campaign, for Plateau United in the Nigerian National League, scoring 18 goals and had been linked with move to Europe before he began his trial with the Cape Town-based outfit.
Ajax’s main threat in attack, Thembinkosi Fanteni, has blown hot and cold this season and it is believed that Akpabio has been brought in to share the responsibility in attack.
