Ajax Still Assessing Nigerian
24 January 2012
Ajax Cape Town have turned down the opportunity to sign Zimbabwean Roderick Mutuma, however they are still assessing Nigerian George Akpabio.
After almost a week and a half of training with the club, while they were in Johannesburg, the Urban Warriors’ technical team has decided against signing the Zimbabwean but are still keen to see what the Nigerian has to offer.
Speaking to the Siya crew, the club’s CEO, George Comitis, confirmed that they were not impressed by Mutuma but are hoping that Akpabio will show something special during his remaining time with the club.
Comitis said, “ We’re still hoping for the best from the Nigerian top scorer, our technical team are closely assessing him.”
The 19-year-old scored 18 goals in his first season in Nigeria’s top league and was said to have caught the eye of Bloemfontein Celtic earlier on in the season, while having been linked with a move to Europe following his impressive debut campaign.
