ABSA Premiership

Venue: Lucas ‘Masterpieces’ Moripe Stadium

Date: 18 September 2011

Result: Sundowns 2-3 Ajax Cape Town

Referee: Victor Hungwani

Ajax Cape Town defeated Mamelodi Sundowns 3-2 in an ABSA Premiership encounter at the Lucas ‘Masterpieces’ Moripe Stadium this afternoon. An injury time winner from Khama Billiat separated the two sides.

The match got off to a quick start as Sundowns attacked the Urban Warriors from the first whistle. Although the Brazilians dominated 56 percent of possession in the opening 15 minutes they never really created any clear cut goal scoring opportunities.

Surprise Moriri came close in the 20th minute as he got his head on Lebohang Mokoena’s corner at the near post, forcing Sean Roberts to push the ball wide.

George Maluleka found himself one-on-one with Wayne Sandilands in the 26th minute but did not manage to hit the target from a tight angle.

Sundowns broke the deadlock on the half hour mark through Mokoena. Ajax failed to clear their lines properly as the ball dropped to the feet of Mokoena, who made no mistake and tucked the ball into the corner of the goal from 20 yards out.

The Brazilians came close to doubling their lead in the 36th minute as Franklin Cale hit a venomous long range strike only to be denied by the wood work.

The first-half came to a close with Sundowns leading Ajax 1-0.

The second-half got underway and almost immediately Roberts was tested by yet another powerful long range strike from Cale. The goalkeeper did well and parried the ball to defender Aidan Jenniker who put the ball out for a corner.

Against the run of play Thembinkosi Fanteni came extremely close to levelling the scores in the 58th minute. Terror’s shot was just inches wide as he powerfully hit the ball on the half volley.

However Fanteni did not have to wait long as he levelled the score in the 62nd minute. Nhlanahla Vilakazi picked out Fanteni who controlled the ball well, went round the defender and beat Wayne Sandilands on the near post with pure power.

The visitors almost took the lead in the 71st minute but Khama Billiat pulled his shot across the face of goal.

Ajax took the lead in the 73rd minute through Nhlanhla Vilakazi. Sandilands failed to hold onto a powerful long range strike and parried the ball into the path of Vilakazi who made no mistake and put the Urban Warriors into the lead.

Maluleka hit a dipping free-kick in the 80th minute that forced Sandilands to push the ball over the ball.

Masenamela’s left footed strike from the edge of the area in the 83rd beat Roberts and levelled the score.

Billiat snatched an injury time winner, he was set up by substitute Tafadzwa Rusike and stroked the ball home from inside the area and earned his side all three points

@Mefoko you're right. Chiefs will be on top till 17 May 2012... And then on the 19th Pirates will take over. Ask Ajax if you don't believe me. Bucs till 3points becomes more valuable than R8 million
