Ajax Release Correia
01 February 2012
Ajax Cape Town striker Antonio Correia will head back to his homeland, Angola, after failing to nail down a place in the Urban Warriors’ line-up.
The former Inter Terku man has made only one appearance this season under coach Maarten Stekelenburg and even that came as a substitute. It has now been agreed between all parties that it would be best if the 28-year-old returned to the country of his birth.
Ajax’s CEO, George Comitis, confirmed the news to the Siya crew explaining that Correia, who was on the books at Dutch club Heerenveen as a youngster, was no longer needed at the club and was not in their plans.
The departure of the Angolan follows the news that the club have brought in young Nigerian striker,George Akpabio and have also sent out Mfundu Shumana, Sici Shelembe and Nathan Gertse on loan as they look to trim down their outfit before the PSL reconvenes on February 15.
