Wenger, RVP On Gunners Board Agenda

22 February 2012

Wenger

Arsenal’s majority shareholder, Stan Kroenke, is jetting into London for a board meeting as the club prepares to release its half-yearly accounts.

High on the agenda at the meeting will be Arsene Wenger’s future at the Emirates, in the wake of Arsenal’s disappointing season.

Last season left a bad taste in Arsenal mouths, and things have not got sweeter this campaign. Kroenke arrives with the cloud of Arsenal’s FA Cup exit, Champions League thrashing and EPL malaise hanging heavily over North London.

Many pundits believe that despite his glorious past, Wenger’s Arsenal future hangs in the balance. However, it is understood that Kroenke will throw his weight behind the embattled Frenchman.

Arsenal are set to reveal operating profits of around £55 million- money which Kroenke will back Wenger to spend in strengthening his squad. Unfortunately, Arsenal’s impending Champions League last-16 exit is set to cost them as much as £45 million in lost revenue potential, and so Wenger’s budget balancing looks set to continue.

Spending a significant amount of their growing profit on renewing club skipper Robin van Persie’s soon to expire contract will also be feverishly discussed.

Arsenal’s big wigs are understandably anxious to retain their best player, and are ready to offer him a £100 000 per week salary to keep him at the club.

But RVP is equally ready to spurn their overtures until the end of the season, when he will know if Arsenal will be in the Champions League next time out.
