Suarez Likened To Messi
03 January 2013
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez approaches football with a similar attitude to Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, according to Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.
Rodgers made the claim after his team's 3-0 drubbing of Sunderland at Anfield on Wednesday, with Suarez striking twice to take his goal tally to 15 for the season.
"When you work with players like Luis Suarez, he is a Messi-type character in terms of he is angry when I give him a breather," said Rodgers.
"At the start of the season I tried to rest him and he didn't want it.
"He is a player that to be at his top of his game has to play two or three times a week, one game is not enough.
"He needs to be playing and you see the response you get from him.
"His work has never dropped, he is a real team player, he trains every single day, is never in the treatment room and then he goes out and performs."
Rodgers feels Suarez is benefitting from the side's possession-based style of football.
"As the ball moves he gets the chance to move into spaces - if he plays in a style which is direct he doesn't get a chance to move," added Rodgers.
"In a structure where the team is moving and the ball is moving his cleverness and intelligence finds the space and you can see he is thriving in the team at the moment.
"It will be fantastic to see him develop because I think there is a long way to go in his development."

@Leeroy 1.the 1st question about Messi & sadR7's comparability is somewhat vague...2.I think in the last decade & this new 1 (2011-2020)so far Barca has definitely been the best not only in Spain but in the world..... 3.I can't speak for all cules but I personally don't expect everyone to be a Messi fan but I think u don't have to be his fan to acknowledge that he's the best.As a Barca fan I naturally don't like Casillas but I can't say Valdez is better than him or refuse to concede that 4 quite some time he WAS the best although I think Joe Hart has since toppled him.....4.Since sadR7 arrived at Madrid he's been more of a goal scorer than anything & that's y Messi is better than him because Leo does more than score goals.I personally think he can do more.

Someone on this site believes that being part of a team that wins a championship is being influential. This OBE education is depriving people. Maybe it's the understanding of the word INFLUENTIAL. Some of us that studied way before OBE understand though. SMDH!

@Leeroy u said Sneijder should have won the 2010 award instead of Messi bcos he was influential for both Inter's treble & Netherland's WC campaigns.sadR7 was influential but won La Liga only whereas Silva was influential & won both EPL & EURO Championships,Casillas was influential & won both La Liga & Euro's,Mata was influential in Chelsea's FA & UCL's triumphs and was part of the Spanish EUROs winning squad,Drogba was influential in Chelsea's FA & UCL's triumphs & in Ivory Coast's squad which made the African championships final, Pirlo won Serie A & made the Final of Euros,Yaya was influential in both City's EPL championship & in Ivory Coast's squad to the continental finals & yet u don't say any of those should win it but u rather say sadR7 should win it .Am I missing something here?
