Mou: La Liga Trumps Champions League
20 February 2012
Jose Mourinho reckons winning the La Liga title with Real Madrid would be more meaningful than winning the Champions League with them.
The Special One will guide Los Blancos against CSKA Moscow in the last-16 of the Champions League tomorrow night, and while he would dearly love to win the trophy with a third club, it seems his eye is on La Liga instead.
"For me, La Liga is the most important thing because it is the competition in which the best team always wins out. In the Champions League, the best team doesn't always win,” Mourinho explained.
"When you win a league, it's very good for the coach's self-esteem, because he knows he's done a good job throughout the year."
Mourinho has also dismissed speculation that Real’s Champions League run could have a bearing on his future at the club.
Despite his success this season, speculation is rife that Mourinho could exit the Bernabeu at the end of the season no matter what he wins.
In the past he left Porto and Inter Milan immediately after winning the Champions League, but this time he insists things are different.
"That's not the reason I left,” Mourinho told AS when asked if winning the Champions League spelled the end for him at his former clubs.
"I left Porto because I thought it was time to leave and I had other ambitions. I'd decided to leave Inter before we played the final."
Pressed further on whether this season’s Champions League will have a bearing on his future at Real, Mou simply stated: "No."

Isn't it the same Mourinoh who claimed the CL was the best competition even better than the WC, which is why he has no ambition to be a national coach. Some more yadayada from him.
