Frimpong Cleared To Play For Ghana
29 November 2012
Emmanuel Frimpong has been given permission to turn out for West African giants, Ghana.
The 20-year-old midfielder has previously represented England at Under-16 and Under-17 level, but has opted to switch allegiance to the Black Stars.
Frimpong was born in Kumasi, and as such, Fifa saw no reason why he should not turn out for the country of his birth, regardless of his junior affiliation.
"I have always said that, no matter what, I will always play for Ghana because I believe I am a Ghanaian," Frimpong said, reacting to Fifa’s decision.
Frimpong currently plays for English Championship side Charlton on loan.
He is still on the books at Arsenal, but it remains unclear if he has future at the Emirates.
Following his permission to play for Ghana, Frimpong is now in line to become a senior Black Star, when they resume their World Cup 2014 qualifying campaign at home to Sudan in March.
