Chelsea Discomfort For Cahill
22 February 2012
Gary Cahill has not enjoyed the best start to his Chelsea career.
It took the England international defender more than a month to win his first start after his move from Bolton.
And last night, the excitement of his first ever Champions League match evaporated in the noxious fumes of Chelsea's pitiful defeat.
Things are not set to get any easier for Cahill.
He is certain to start Chelsea's next game because John Terry is still out injured, but uncomfortably, that game will be against Bolton.
"I'm ridiculously disappointed. Disappointed with the result, the night, the Champions League debut," Cahill said, looking back at his and Chelsea's Napoli nightmare.
"So it was a pretty low night for myself, actually.
"It started off brilliantly. We were frustrating them early doors, they made a mistake and we got the goal.
"For some reason, it seemed really open after that instead of really solid.
"We should have shut the door, made everything really compact and gone in at half-time 1-0 up, but it wasn't to be. I think we were too easily cut open."
A win in Chelsea's next game is now vital for the Blues to re-establish some winning momentum. And considering the opponents, for Cahill another loss is probably too painful a thought to contemplate.
"It has come round pretty quickly," he said of his meeting with his old team-mates. "It is going to be a weird situation, knowing the lads and knowing how they play."
