Al-Ain: Gyan Will Stay
22 February 2012
Asamoah Gyan’s club Al-Ain are confident he’s theirs for keeps.
The high-profile striker joined the UAE club in a bizarre loan deal after just a few months at Premier League side Sunderland.
His move to the Stadium of Light was supposed to be a springboard onto bigger and better things. But allegedly as the result of a falling out with former Black Cats boss Steve Bruce, Gyan now happily plies his trade in a no-mark desert league instead.
Not surprisingly for a player of his undoubted talents, Gyan has been a hit for Al-Ain, where he has scored 10 goals already.
It is thought that Sunderland’s new manager Martin O’Neill would love to have Gyan at his disposal, but Al-Ain believe the 26-year-old who is becoming increasingly mysterious would prefer to stay with them.
"If you ask me for my opinion if Gyan wants to stay in Al Ain, it is yes, but it is left for him to decide if he want to stay or not," said Al-Ain coach Cosmin Olaroiu.
"From what I know about him and the way he acts, I know he feels good about this place.
"He is getting on well with the team, with us, the club management and with everybody around him.
"Gyan obviously is an important player for us. He is not only scoring for us but also creates scoring opportunities for the others and most importantly, he motivates the other players."
What's the story with Asamoah: has he no ambition? Is he afraid of the EPL?
