Chippa Assess Keeper
28 November 2012
Chippa United have welcomed Richard de Villiers to their training grounds as the club continues their search for another goalkeeper, to provide cover and competition for Kassaly Daouda.
Chippa have been conceding goals at an alarming rate this season, despite having Niger international goalkeeper, Daouda, between the sticks and Nigerian defender, James Okwuosa, marshalling the team’s defence.
The Chilli Boys conceded a soft goal last week Friday, in their 3-2 loss to Ajax Cape Town, with Daouda committing an elementary error. Coach Farouk Abrahams is now assessing the former Witbank Spurs shot-stopper, to see if he can add value to the squad.
However, a reliable source within the Chippa camp has revealed to the Siya crew that De Villiers’ chances of signing with the team are slim.
“He started training this week. But I don’t think he will be signing with us. I’ve heard that he will be released. He was allowed to train with the team because we aren’t very busy this week. We don’t have any games this week so it was a good time to look at him,” said the source.
