Ajax Doubtful Of Serero Afcon Return
10 October 2012
Thulani Serero’s club, Ajax Amsterdam, have said that they are doubtful that the Bafana Bafana midfielder will be back in time for next year’s African Cup of Nations.
Serero had a tremendous start to the new season in Ajax colours, however suffered an unfortunate injury against ADO Den Haag and has subsequently been ruled out for a number of months.
While the player himself recently told the Siya crew that he had started his rehabilitation and was hoping to be back in time to join Gordon Igesund’s Afcon side, his club is not as optimistic.
Ajax have said, "We don't expect him to recover in time and take part of Africa Cup of Nations with Bafana Bafana. Even if he recovers quickly, both the club and the player remain cautious.
“Thulani overcame a series of small injuries last campaign and was becoming a regular for Ajax this season, so this latest problem is particularly difficult for him."
Despite the disappointment, Serero will take heart from the fact that the club also spoke of their coach’s admiration for him, concluding by saying, "Thulani is a great footballer and a great person. He has the right mentality to succeed, and manager Frank de Boer is keen on Serero's footballing qualities."
While the 22-year-old will undoubtedly try his best to return in time for the Afcon, he may well be fighting a losing battle.

Eish Serero's injury is a concern, I wish he recovers in time so that Mr Igesund will have a pool of quality players to chose from.

Sorry to say this my fellow commentaries I think european coaches r trying their best to destroy African football,I will agree with ETO`O if he say African football standard must improve to March with European one in terms of MONEY,PLAYING STYLE etc to have our own players @ anytime we want them

I dont know what the fuss is about with CAF I fully aggree with my follow bloggers that we need to be in line with the rest of the world, ok lets not play our competition on the same month same year with thiers bu if Euro is 2012 ours should be 2013 winter to accommodate every one because if we play the same year ours will have little support ofcourse, There is to much pride with Africa we want to do things our own way and is killing our soccer lets do things with the rest of the world and there will be no conflict of interest All people say Amen!!!

Yeah true that, it must just be hosted when the Euros are hosted, and the one in january should consist of local players, or african based players only

@tshego I aint judging Serero man,he is a hungry boy who want to impress and improve,I understand he is injured etc. What I'm saying our own tournament suffers coz of the time its played.Yes Eto'o and other players have been consistent but most of our big shot guys simply don't deliver when it comes to this tour....
