SuperSport United defender Lyle Lakay has revealed a heart-to-heart with Kaizer Chiefs' Mfundo Vilakazi after the pair appeared to have a heated exchange of words, during which the teenager seemingly flashed the middle finger towards the defender.

Chiefs kept their top-four ambitions alive with an all-important 2-1 victory against SuperSport at New Peter Mokaba Stadium courtesy of goals from Mduduzi Shabalala and Christian Saile, while Terrence Dzvukamanja scored one for the visitors.

PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA - NOVEMBER 29: Lyle Lakay during the DStv Premiership match between SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on November 29, 2023 in Pretoria, South Africa.

The match was not without controversy, as Vilakazi got embroiled in a heated exchange of words with Lakay after the veteran defender collided harshly with the youngster in a reckless tackle and was subsequently yellow-carded.

The footage also shows the teenager seemingly raising the middle finger towards the former Mamelodi Sundowns man during the ensuing war of words.

After the match, the pair were pictured once more seemingly reconciling.

The incident has sparked mixed reviews from the corridors of social media, prompting Lakay to clarify that they had indeed made peace.

"It’s sorted, we spoke and he apologised. It’s part of the game when emotions are high. His (sic) a good kid," Lakay wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Vilakazi was lucky to escape without a yellow card himself but could still to face some form of disciplinary punishment from the PSL DC, having possibly contravened Rule 55.3.6.7. of the NSL Handbook that deals with offensive language and gestures.

Meanwhile, Chiefs are hard at work preparing for a massive encounter against Mamelodi Sundowns.
