Marquez Leaves Barca For New York

Barcelona’s central defender Rafael Marquez has left the Spanish champions on a free transfer after the club released him from his contract which was due to expire in 2012.
The 31-year-old joined the Catalan club in 2003 from Monaco and had an illustrious career in Spain. Having represented the first team on no less than 164 occasions, he helped them win two Champions League trophies, four Spanish league titles, a Spanish Cup and a European Super Cup.
Major League Soccer club New York Red Bulls have reportedly agreed to personal terms with the defender and are expecting to unveil him as an official Red Bulls player during the coming week.
The cross-continent move will see the Mexican captain link up with former Barcelona team mate Thierry Henry.
