French Youth Regain Some Pride

France’s under-19 team have regained some of the nation’s pride after winning the under-19 European Championship 2-1 against Spain. The youngsters came from behind to defeat a talented Spanish team, on home soil.
Spain opened the scoring after just 18 minutes through Rodrigo who latched onto a perfectly weighted through ball from Daniel Pacheco. Spain were in control of the game thereafter and were looking at emulating their senior team’s success from two years ago, when they lifted the European Cup.
The Spanish domination came to an end when Gilles Sunu found an equilser, against the run of play, by lobbing the keeper. And, with only five minutes left on the clock, France got their winner as substitute Alexandre Lacazette met a Gael Kakuta cross and headed home from close range.
“It's magic, it's magnificent,” French striker Cedric Bakambu told French media house AFP. “For the second-half, we told ourselves that we had nothing more to lose. We're at home, we'll give everything. Most of all, the fans were with us, and it was fantastic.”
It may be said that France’s footballing future seems to be in good hands as there senior team’s performance at this year’s World Cup will want to be forgotten as soon as possible.
