Rowen Fernandez

The Siya crew this week reported that Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez has been put on the transfer list by his German club Arminia Bielefeld.

It can now be revealed that Fernandez himself was utterly shocked at the news delivered to him by coach Christian Ziege.

“I was shocked! So far, I was focused only on Arminia,” said Fernandez to German publication Neue Westfälische.

The goalkeeper struggled with injuries last season and failed to make the final 23-man Bafana Bafana squad for the FIFA World Cup as a result thereof.

Now that he’s recovered from injury, Fernandez will find himself club hunting in the hope of restoring his career to its former glory.

“Life goes on. I will still work hard in training. Who knows what the future will bring,” continued the player.

His German agent Rainer Kempa added that it won’t be easy finding a team before the close of the transfer window on August 31.

“Basically, Rowen would like to stay in Bielefeld, especially since there is little demand for goalkeepers on the market at the moment,” said Kempa.

Fernandez still has two years remaining on his contract, but the cash-strapped club are hoping to strike him off the payroll before the beginning of the new season.

The challenging part on overseas players is that our SA player are not treated with respect whhch highly depress them therefore their careers and national team surfers.I hope Fernandez will get a team sooner to revive his career.
