The late Douglas Lawrence, a former member of Witbank Black Aces involved in the recruitment of senior players such as Thomas Ngobe, Harris “TV4” Cheou, the late Mathews Msibi and the late Steve ‘Disco” Makua, will be honoured this weekend.

Calaska Football Club will be honouring Douglas’ life by hosting a tournament in his honour at the Ackerville Stadium on Saturday. The event has been aptly christened the “Douglas Lawrence Soccer Tournament.”

Lawrence, who passed away in 2006, played a vital role in the continuity of football in the city of Emalahleni. He relocated from Greenside to Schoongezicht in 1980 and lived there until his time of passing.

Four clubs will be participating in this one-day soccer event, a draw was held on the 28th July 2010 whereby Witbank were drawn against newly promoted Vodacom League side Lynnville All Stars at 10h00.

In the second semi final at 12h00, the host of the tournaments (Calaska), will be facing Alexandra United from Gauteng. The final is scheduled for 15h30.
