Ivory Coast international Yaya Toure made his debut for new club Manchester City last night against Club America after signing from Spanish champions Barcelona.

City have been on the up since being taken over by billionaires, and have made Toure one of many marquee signings.

As a result of the club's ever expanding squad of household names, many pundits have tipped City to challenge for Premier League glory sooner rather than later.

But Toure admits the it will be tough for the club to win the league in his first season at Eastlands.

The hulking midfielder is however expecting City to push on from their fifth-place finish last season, and challenge for a place in the Champions League.

"I am very happy to sign for the club and I think this year will be very good for Man City," Toure told Sky Sports News after his debut.

"For the moment what I expect is for the club to go up, maybe finish third or fourth to be in the Champions League qualification.

"After one year with these players maybe we can take the championship.

"For now it is so difficult because with top teams like Chelsea, Man United and Arsenalthey need to work hard to go up."
