Inter Start Title Defence Against Bologna

Inter Milan will start defending their Serie A title at the end of August, when they take on Bologna in the opening weekend of the 2010/11 Serie A season.
The opening weekend of the season takes place on the last weekend of August, the 28th,29th and 30th of the month, and will see the Inter’s main threats to the Scudetto starting their challenge too, with Juventus traveling to Bari, AC Milan hosting Lecce and Roma entertaining newly promoted Cesena in the Italian capital.
Inter are playing in the European Super Cup against Atletico Madrid on the 27th of August and will have a limited period of time to recover for their opening league fixture, a scenario that concerns Inter’s chief executive Ernesto Paolillo.
“We're playing in the European Super Cup a few days before and the thing I was worried about was getting a long away trip,” Paolillo told the Inter channel. “From that point of view Bologna is a good start.”
The current Italian and European champions are under new management with former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez taking over the reins from Jose Mourinho. The Spaniard is hoping to build on last season’s success however will find it a tough challenge to emulate The Special One’s treble winning season.
Inter’s biggest domestic threat last season came from Roma and are expecting their rivals to challenge them once again. The mouth watering challenge between the two, which should be the Nerazzurri’s first real test in their domestic league, will take place five weeks into the campaign.
“Roma is always our toughest opponent,” Paolillo said. “This match will be particularly difficult because we have a Champions League match a few days afterward.”
