World Cup Debate: Did Khune Deserve A Red Card

Download this file (reds.jpg)

South Africa's fate against Uruguay was sealed in the 75th minute when a penalty was awarded against them for goalkeeper Itumuleng Khune's challenge on Luis Suarez which earned the 'keeper a red card.

To earn a red card a player must commit a dangerous tackle or a "professional" foul, which is defined as a deliberate foul committed as a last-ditch tactic to prevent an opponent from scoring.

As Khune's challenge was not a dangerous one, the referee must have judged the 'keeper to have tripped Suarez in order to prevent him from scoring.

However, Suarez, from the replay, looked to be off-side, so does the professional foul rule still apply?

If not, was the red card justified?

Even if Suarez was not off-side, was Khune's card justified?

If u commit a foul on a player that was goin 2 score, is called a professional foul which deserve a straight red card no warnings. Lets be realistic, honest and stop being one sided.

Honest players could'v avoided the challenge besides Khune was goin for the ball not the man. If anybody derved a red is the striker bcause was more of an actor than a player. Guys please stop supportin chiefs, pirates, sundowns or whatever team. SUPPORT FOOTBALL, cz your politic is pathetic

Guys, please be fair when you comment and don't judge the boy based on the team he plays for locally. Anyone with common sense saw that the red card was too harsh. Khune is and will be Mzantsi's finest for many years to come whatever you haters from Pie-rats and Sunflops say or think of him.

The red card that was given to Khune was totally out of order. The FIFA referee committee needs to relook at that and reverse the referees decision before our game against France because we really need the boy for that game. As for the linesman not raising his flag for offside, only he knows why. Overall, poor outing by the match officials and not forgetting our coach for that line-up.
