After scoring two goals in the Mokoni Bophirima Maize Cup against Botswana giants, Township Rollers, at Orkney Stadium in the Free State province on Saturday afternoon, Gustavo Paez is now getting compared to the Zimbabwean hitman, Knowledge Musona, who has also played for Kaizer Chiefs before leaving for the Bundesliga side 1889 Hoffenheim in 2011.
The Venezuelan-born player joined Amakhosi in January this year, joining as a free agent, signing a two and half-year deal that will see him stay at Naturena till 2019 with a one-year option.
Paez arrived at Naturena amidst criticism and doubt, as we heard people questioning his goalscoring ratio, as it was revealed that Paez scored only eleven goals in eleven seasons.
However, Gustavo Paez is slowly but surely proving his doubters wrong, showing hunger and determination in every game he has played thus far, settling into Steve Komphela's Kaizer Chiefs team.
The 27-year-old’s off-the-ball movement is excellent and his work rate is comparable to none, playing a high-pressing game, chasing and fighting every ball that comes his way and that's what makes him a good striker. He seems to be fitting into the big shoes left by Amakhosi's goal poacher, Knowledge Musona.
We saw him score a couple of goals since he arrived in the PSL in January and his goal ratio is better than Musona thus far, having scored not less than five goals in ten starts in the Amakhosi colours.
Having said that, is Gustavo Paez the new Knowledge Musona? If given the chance, can he score more goals than Musona?
