Yes, in that season which Messi won third Ballon D'or CR7 scored more than Messi but when people took a closer look considering all aspects of the game Messi was tops...It was not about what he won with the "team" but him as a player what he did...

An individual award should not be given on basis of what the team has won, but on what you have done as that particular individual. Individually it's always Messi and the rest follow.
