Manchester United 3-2 Newcastle United

Manchester United got back to winning ways in the Premier League after defeating Newcastle United 3-2 in their final home game of the season.

The Red Devils made just one change from the loss to Arsenal, as captain Bruno Fernandes came in for Rasmus Hojlund, who dropped to the bench alongside the returning Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez.

The Red Devils got the breakthrough in the 32nd minute when the young Kobbie Mainoo got his fourth goal of the season with a composed after being played in by Amad Diallo's fine pass.

The visitors had their best chance late in the first when defender Dan Burn saw his header brilliantly cleared off the line by Casemiro.

Newcastle did back on level terms shortly after the break when Anthony Gordon turned home Jacob Murphy's superb cross from six-yards out.

The hosts restored their lead on 58 minutes when Diallo got his first league goal of the campaign with a wonderful first-time strike from just inside the box.

United made the game safe with six minutes to play as Hojlund got his name on the score-sheet with a lovely right-footed finish after being picked out by Fernandes.

Lewis Hall did pull a goal back in the 91st minute with a solid strike, but the Red Devils were able to hold out for the victory.

Brighton and Hove Albion 1-2 Chelsea

Chelsea remain in pole position to secure a UEFA Europa League spot after defeating Brighton and Hove Albion 2-1 on Wednesday night.

Mauricio Pochettino made just one change after Sunday's win over Brentford, as Malu Gusto replaced veteran defender Thiago Silva, as Reece James kept his spot on the bench once again.

The Blues still had hopes of finishing in a European spot, while Brighton had nothing left to play for expect pride.

The visitors got the breakthrough in the 34th minute as Cole Palmer continued his fine season after netting his 22nd league goal of the campaign with a lovely header past Bart Verbruggen.

Brighton did go close to pulling themselves level on the stroke of halftime when Pedro met a cross from Tariq Lamptey before seeing his header crash against the crossbar.

Pochettino's charges did double their lead after the hour mark, as Christopher Nkunku bagged his third league goal for the club after being set up by Gusto.

The game ended on a sour note for the away side as James was shown a straight red card for lashing out at Pedro after the ball had gone, while Danny Welbeck pulled one back for the home side in second-half stoppage time.
